Waiting

Waiting, water color on paper, 18x24 inch

Wherever you go in the Bangkok, there are girls waiting.   Sometimes for days, sometimes only a few hours.  They wonder, what is it that makes men decide?  The color of the dress, the eyes, the shape of the body?  A look, a smile, a laugh?  Something from their mothers, their sisters, another girl?  When you are waiting too much, you wonder.  What happened in my past lives to give me this one?

Lady Barber

Lady Barber, water color on paper, 5x7 inch

In Thailand, getting a haircut can mean more than one thing.  Especially if the barber is a woman and the room with the mechanical chair has a door that can be closed.  A Thai woman would never tell her husband, Honey, I think you need a haircut.  She knows he will get one on his own, whenever he feels the need.  The wife’s only defense is to be so essential to her husband’s life and business in so many ways that the haircuts make no difference.
